group of students

The Institute of Metabolic Science offers a world class environment for research  in obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Training graduate students for a scientific career is a priority at the IMS-MRL. We have a mixture of both basic science students and clinical trainees and aim to provide everyone with a supportive, stimulating research and learning environment.

A world-leading institute in metabolic research

  • At the forefront of international efforts to understand the interrelated problems of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
  • Excellent core facilities and a Wellcome Discovery Research Platform, bringing together state-of-the-art equipment with specialised expertise.
  • A big emphasis on research culture and well-being.
  • A lively and diverse student community

A thriving student community

Our students contribute greatly to both the stimulating research environment and the life of the Institute as a whole.

"One of the things I really like about the IMS is its friendly student community. Our students committee organizes all kinds of social events, pub nights, cake clubs, the annual student symposium, data and journal clubs".
