I am a Wellcome Clinical Career Development Fellow and Honorary Consultant in Endocrinology & Diabetes. My research uses advanced genomic and molecular techniques to
- uncover novel mechanisms of hormone secretion and action across endocrine systems and
- understand how these processes are disrupted in human disease, with a particular focus on the reproductive consequences of obesity and insulin resistance.
Background
I combined medical training with doctoral research via the University of Cambridge MB/PhD programme. During my PhD at the IMS-MRL (working with Professor Robert Semple), I investigated novel monogenic syndromes of severe insulin resistance. After foundation clinical training in London, I returned to the IMS-MRL as an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow before joining Professor Sadaf Farooqi’s group as an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Endocrinology and Diabetes.
Current Projects
With Professor Farooqi, and in collaboration with Professor Sarah Teichmann (Cambridge Stem Cell Institute), my current research uses single cell genomics to profile patterns of hormone production and action across human tissues. This work is allowing us to discover and investigate the function of novel mediators of hormone action in different cellular contexts..
