Research focus

I manage all aspects of the GOOS (Genetics of Obesity) study including patient information, recruitment, sample management and data monitoring. In addition, I am involved in the running of clinical trials and the monitoring of lab data and human tissue samples.

Background and experience

I was awarded a PhD. in Oncology from the University of Cambridge whilst working in the MRC-Hutchison building with Prof. Rebecca Fitzgerald. Subsequently, I worked at the Wellcome Sanger Institute for 10 years optimising high throughput sequencing technologies. I then wanted a new challenge away from bench science and I took up my current role as a Research Coordinator with the Farooqi team.

Working at the IMS-MRL

My role is very diverse and includes the following aspects:

Sole coordinator for the SCORPIO (Sars-COV-2 vaccine ResPonse In Obesity) study, involving taxi and courier booking, scheduling appointments, data monitoring and liaising with BioResource and patients directly

Coordination of the GOOS (Genetics of Obesity Study) containing over 7000 individuals

Extraction of clinical data from a range of sources include clinic letters and questionnaires

Coordinator for clinical trials, including courier booking, sample shipping and lab kit ordering

Data Monitor for all clinical and laboratory data associated with the GOOS study

Reviewing Sanger sequencing to confirm genetic variants

Creating and updating SOPs and Risk Assessments

Human Tissue Representative, managing and the correct storage of human materials for the team
