Dr Daniel Fazakerley from the IMS-MRL, Dr Ivo Lieberam (King’s College London) and Professor Wenhui Song (University College London) are collaborating on a diabetes research project that has been awarded a total of £1.2m in funding from the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)’s new interdisciplinary scheme.
The project will focus on developing an in vitro model of glucose metabolism and insulin resistance in skeletal muscle and studying how it fails in diabetes. The team will also be exploring the viability of the model as a platform for testing drugs to regulate glucose uptake.
